RSS is 'Really Simple Syndication' or 'Rich Site Summary' or '...'

It is a way of dispersing information using XML and the HTTP protocol.

Specifications

There are many specifications of RSS around. The most used are RSS 2.0 and RSS 1.0. Don't be fooled by version numbers. RSS 1.0 and 2.0 are two different things, apart from the Atom specification. In the end they mean to do the same thing: syndication and aggragation of content.
